The creative essay was an exciting and enjoyable process for our group as, it was about combining various ideas, exploring new concepts, tapping into the art world, to discover new names that inspired us to be experimental with our approach to the task. Undoubtedly, no journey is completely smooth and in our case the obstacles we faced as a team, mainly concerned the understanding of each other’s visions. As individuals we are very different in terms of the styles and philosophies we abide by. Nevertheless, everyone was welcoming and open-minded which allowed us to come to grips with all the suggested ideas vastly. Owing to the fact the entire creative essay was created around the art piece from the Tate Modern “Coloured Cycle III” by Peter Sedgley, the importance of colour and shapes, crucial in the latter artwork, was agreed upon as the basis for project. Lis Rhodes was our inspiration for further development of our video, as she made usage of multiple projections in her “Light Music” to reflect upon the current situation in the musical industry, thus giving us an idea of how we can incorporate layering projections and bringing up social agendas. Furthermore, James Turrell showed us how powerful light and colour can be when it comes to provoking sensations, whereas Nam June Paik taught us how to look at ordinary objects in a fresher way, In terms of sound, there are a few things that we would have like to further play around with such as; the vibrations created through using speakers, which added to the distortion of the audio. We would have also like to create our own music to incorporate into our project however, this was limited due to time restraints. We would have also liked to project onto different materials and experiment with using more projectors. Overall, collectively as a group we found this project very exciting and we were extremely proud with the courage we gained to be experimental with the creative essay, as we were not sure of what the outcome would consists of which was quite worrying. We are also content with the progress we’ve made as a group as we we’re able to communicate our ideas and listen to each other’s visions.
